The dossier entry: El acantilado de Maeda (Hacksaw Ridge)
The Maeda Escarpment, known to American soldiers as Hacksaw Ridge, was a nearly vertical cliff about 400 feet high that had to be assaulted and held at its very top, with fighting raging both above and below the rock face. There, Army medic Desmond Doss served — a conscientious objector who refused to carry a weapon and who, according to the official account, lowered roughly 75 wounded men down the cliff face by rope to safety. For this he received the Medal of Honor, becoming the first of only three conscientious objectors to be awarded it.
